Poor and Rich by Matthew Jacquette
I lost it all
Will I find it again?
My faith is still here but for how long?
What else do I have
I have my heart
I have wealth in love
I have so much you cannot see
For the best things are free, the sky, the sea
My spirit, my intellectual deeds
I have the consideration of others; charity
Those who see the best in me
I feel deprived, but the opposite is my reality
Thank you angels for your protection
I am me
The world does care
For they know I am here
Charity
Come and share with me

The Homeless Voice by Carrie Loper
no where to call home, no bed to rest my head
If you walked with me you would know
this painful road, how it feels in rain soaked clothes
I once was well and had a home, a job, a car and girl to hold
Now my days are spent alone,
I'm tired, I'm hungry, I'm cold
You don't seem to care, because I'm Homeless
It seems so unfair, If only we could come together
and show our love for each other
What would it take to be noticed
to receive a helping hand
a kind gesture, a meal, a Shelter
If you could open your heart
I might have the chance, at a new start
In Community Partnership
We can all learn, and help one another
A father, a mother, a sister a brother
Our world would be a better place in turn
Where we care about men and women, and Stand Up for Kids
many who don't have a choice
Let me be heard, Let me be The Homeless Voice
I've learned from my misfortune
and because of this, I'll become a better person
So if I had one wish, I'd wish for Love to shine through
to be a light of hope for those in need
what would you wish for if you were me?

WRITINGS: It's a Man's World
It's a Man's world
When I take my car in for service
A man tells me what needs to be done
When I ask for a raise a man decides
When I turn on the tele a man is speaking
When I turn the corner a man whistles at me
When I go out for happy hour men stare at me
When I hang out with my girl friends we talk about men
When I cry myself to sleep it's because of a man
When I wake up I realize the tables have turned
When I put on my suit and grab a cup of coffee I realize
It's a Woman's world....

WRITINGS: Liposuction - Q & A with Dr. Carlos Wolf
Q: I’ve been married a few years and I am thinking of having liposuction. I have one question. I am planning to have a child but I don’t know what I should do about the liposuction. Should I have it now or after I have after I have my child?
A: I would recommend you wait until after you have your child. With pregnancy and the physiologic changes that occur you may be wasting your time doing liposuction. During pregnancy you may gain more weight than you thought you would and in places you never thought you would (sounds great doesn’t it!). In addition to the weight gain you may have weakness in your abdominal muscles that may require you to have a tummy tuck. By waiting to have your liposuction you may just require one surgery. I am not saying that everyone should wait to have liposuction after pregnancy but it sounds to me like you are considering having children sooner than later. If you have liposuction and maintain your weight you should not have trouble keeping your shape. Patients often ask that if they have liposuction they are worried that they will gain fat somewhere else. While some studies show that fat is accumulated on other places as long as patients do not gain a lot of weigh their results of liposuction can be seen for many years.

POEM by Matt: Those People
I've known them for a while
They've known me
I see them often
Plagued by the past in which they hurt me
I've hurt them too
Do they feel the same?
Still we see each other
Talk about the present
Reminisce about the past
Hope for the best future
I'll tell them how I feel
I'll ask them for help
They'll give me shelter like no one else
We're stuck together for life and I wouldn't have it any other way
I love you all, forgive my past wrongs
For I am a new improved cool dude
And you all are too
I love my family

EDUCATION: The Big Thirst - The Secret Life and Turbulent Future of Water - By Charles Fishman
RECOMMENDED BOOK!
The water coming out of your kitchen tap is four billion years old and might well have been sipped by a Tyrannosaurus rex. Rather than only three states of water—liquid, ice, and vapor—there is a fourth, “molecular water,” fused into rock 400 miles deep in the Earth, and that’s where most of the planet’s water is found. Unlike most precious resources, water cannot be used up; it can always be made clean enough again to drink—indeed, water can be made so clean that it’s toxic.
Water is the most vital substance in our lives but also more amazing and mysterious than we appreciate. As Charles Fishman brings vibrantly to life in this surprising and mind-changing narrative, water runs our world in a host of awe-inspiring ways, yet we take it completely for granted. But the era of easy water is over.
Bringing readers on a lively and fascinating journey— from the wet moons of Saturn to the water-obsessed hotels of Las Vegas, where dolphins swim in the desert, and from a rice farm in the parched Australian outback to a high-tech IBM plant that makes an exotic breed of pure water found nowhere in nature—Fishman vividly shows that we’ve already left behind a century-long golden age when water was thoughtlessly abundant, free, and safe and entered a new era of high-stakes water. In 2008, Atlanta came within ninety days of running entirely out of clean water.
California is in a desperate battle to hold off a water catastrophe. And in the last five years Australia nearly ran out of water—and had to scramble to reinvent the country’s entire water system. But as dramatic as the challenges are, the deeper truth Fishman reveals is that there is no good reason for us to be overtaken by a global water crisis. We have more than enough water. We just don’t think about it, or use it, smartly.
The Big Thirst brilliantly explores our strange and complex relationship to water. We delight in watching waves roll in from the ocean; we take great comfort from sliding into a hot bath; and we will pay a thousand times the price of tap water to drink our preferred brand of the bottled version. We love water—but at the moment, we don’t appreciate it or respect it. Just as we’ve begun to reimagine our relationship to food, a change that is driving the growth of the organic and local food movements, we must also rethink how we approach and use water. The good news is that we can. As Fishman shows, a host of advances are under way, from the simplicity of harvesting rainwater to the brilliant innovations devised by companies such as IBM, GE, and Royal Caribbean that are making impressive breakthroughs in water productivity. Knowing what to do is not the problem. Ultimately, the hardest part is changing our water consciousness.
As Charles Fishman writes, “Many civilizations have been crippled or destroyed by an inability to understand water or manage it. We have a huge advantage over the generations of people who have come before us, because we can understand water and we can use it smartly.” The Big Thirst will forever change the way we think about water, about our essential relationship to it, and about the creativity we can bring to ensuring that we’ll always have plenty of it.

CHARITY: Happy Hearts Fund - The Simon Atlee Library & Creative Arts Center
We are happy to announce the completion of the Simon Atlee Library and Creative Arts Center! The new library is stocked with more than 600 books and resources that benefit the 127 children of the Wat Pattikaram School.
Two students from each class act as the "leaders" of the students in their class during library hours as they teach their classmates about book care and library skills. In addition, the director of the school has opened the door for students at nearby schools to have the opportunity to benefit from the library too.
Many of the children recently gathered together to attend a special seminar on disaster education and have the ongoing opportunity to learn from resources that were provided by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC).
The Creative Arts room has been equipped with drawing and painting materials. This special room is dedicated to the instruction and practice of the creative arts, including: photography, drawing, and small handicraft making.
The schools talented creative arts teacher instills creativity in the children as they learn to express their thoughts and develop their inner feelings through creative exercises.
Families in the surrounding community are excited to know that the new facility will provide an even greater opportunity for their children to learn and grow to become tomorrow's leaders.

POEM by Matt: Good Fortune
I'm your Lucky Charm
Having a hard time?
That's my queue to come around
I enjoy the job
Though not payed in cash
Your eyes say more than what I need to hear
Your heart blossoms with an abundance of joy
Your legs walk with a confidence only a model would imitate
Your arms are posed with art as if ready for a photo
Your lips are soaked with ambition to judge the air with gourmet taste
An ambiance, radiance to conquer your vicinity
Beautiful
Just....... beautiful
I am your lucky charm
But not to be worn
My objective is to have you in this state of amazing when I'm gone
But its been too long of ups while I'm here
Downs when we part
My mission possible made impossible by you
Time for me to go
One place to find a person a friend by my side whose mission is the same as mine
I'll be theirs, they'll be my
Lucky Charm

CHARITY: A New Beginning for a New Haiti
On May 16, 2011, Happy Hearts celebrated the opening of our first school in Haiti, a preschool/kindergarten at Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje. The school for 102 children, ages three, four, and five, is the product of a partnership between Happy Hearts Fund and ProDev, one of Haiti's most active and respected educational organizations. The school is situated in the Croix des Bouquet district 30 minutes outside of Port-au-Prince. The students at the school include children originally living in the Village La Renaissance Orangers area, children displaced and relocated from earthquake areas, and children attending from nearby Cite Soleil. For the academic year prior to the construction of the kindergarten, the children attended school in tents on the site.
Children attend the opening ceremony with excitement.
The opening celebration was memorable. The children of Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje had prepared songs, speeches and dances, and their contributions were a joyful demonstration of the rich talents of Haiti's children. Haiti's newly inaugurated President Martelly attended the event with the First Lady in his first public appearance as president, and spoke about the essential role of public education in developing Haiti's future. ABC's David Muir covered the event, featuring the story on ABC World News with Diane Sawyer and Nightline in the following days.
President Martelly speaks to the children at the ceremony; Petra Nemcova interacts with the children in the classroom.
The kindergarten, designed and administrated by ProDev, was funded by Happy Hearts Fund thanks to our generous donor Jonathan Jackson. The school is supported and enriched by the efforts of the partners, sponsors, and supporters of both organizations. The kindergarten is part of ProDev's model educational complex, Ecole Nouvelle Zoranje, which currently includes a kindergarten, elementary, and middle school. The vision will be to develop a comprehensive educational model that will implement effective educational practices; cost-effective, earthquake resistant construction; integrated medical, technological, and sustainable practices; and will serve as a center for training and development that can be replicated in key locations of the country.
