POEM by Matt: Jumper

To almost fly
To almost get high enough
But sigh, I won't be able to stay up there
And close enough isn't good enough
Maybe settling with this burst of aerial is fine
But I won't settle
There's nothing I can't achieve in love or success
And to fly means to residually accomplish
So babe, grab my hand
And let's leap in hopes to never touch the Earth again

POEM by Matt: Weather

The weather, like feelings of the heart
Sunny in happiness and grey when we part
Though what is thunder when comparing rain and sadness?
Could it be a tear?
Or a warning for more fear to come?
And if so, then what is winter?
For some find it as pleasant as a sunny day
Or as uncomfortable as that thundery tear
I am full of seasons, of smiles and frowns and that occasional monstrosity I call laughter
And though it may hurt at times, I know that seasons change
And in life, it's not about the weather outside...
It's about your inner sunlight

POEM by Matt: I Went Shopping

I just went shopping
Strolled along awhile atop another mall floor
Awaiting an item almost always to find me
3 things!!!
It had better be affordable
It should look great
It should feel comfortable
Oh I found the most fashionable things!
Boots and shoes then boots and shoes hahahahaha! This is greatttt
And they follow my 3 rulesssss
Feeling good, great and fresh I head downtown!
Driving with treasure in my trunk, I feel like Frosted Flakes... Grrrrreeeeaaaa.... Lol you get the point

But it's the only way to express how I feel!!!
I reach my destination and unload....
Ny donation of shoes to the homeless shelter
I just went shopping
Strolled along awhile atop another mall floor
Awaiting an item almost always to find me
3 things!!!
It had better be affordable

TACO BELL - NO MORE TOXIC TRASH! Letter from a caring consumer to their President!

My name is Daniel Perdomo and I write to bring focus to the use of plastics and the negative impact it has in our environment. Before I continue, I would like you to know that I seek neither benefit nor remuneration from this effort, I only seek an opportunity to make a difference by reaching key organizations and/or individuals who have the ability and resources to change the way people use and dispose of plastic materials we discard daily. Our prize is to give future generations the chance to grow up and experience the same environment we grew up in.

If you already asked yourself what might have prompted me to write you in particular; well  the cause origins from an event, I was driving thru a parking lot in Homestead Florida when I noticed that in front of a Taco Bell restaurant, there was a substantial amount of debris on the pavement, I drove towards the entrance to take a closer look and could not believe what I saw, see below pictures taken.

Again the Taco Bell Restaurant is in Homestead, see below map.

I tried reaching the Manager but since it was 8:30 am on a Saturday the restaurant was closed. Needless to say, the bottles, plastics, and cans were purchased from Taco Bell, not that the negligence of the user is Taco Bell’s fault; however, the point is that great organizations and leaders can’t leave the responsibility of the environment to the majority, which unfortunately is uneducated. I’m aware of Taco Bell’s Foundation for Educating Teens and the fight against hunger, this is fantastic. However, the environment needs to be preserved to guarantee a future for our generations by setting example.

As managers, we know that management works from the top down, well Mr. Creed, this is why I reach to you for an opportunity to make a difference. We all know there are costs involved when making operations more efficient and sustainable, but the price our future generations will pay will be so vast it will not fit on a spreadsheet if we don’t take action today. Some countries have already started imposing a tax on fast food companies that use plastics, for example Germany. It is only a matter of time before such taxes travel the world and become a business expense. Perhaps instead of ignoring the problem until it becomes an expense, you could lead the industry towards policy that would prevent that tax from taking place, for example by asking Government to provide better means for industries to properly dispose of used plastics, for doing research to find ways to make un-recyclable plastics recyclable, for government to provide tax exemptions for companies that are environmentally friendly. Mr. Creed, the problem we face with the environment shouldn’t end up as a business expense, the problem can be tackled with an incentive to motivate corporations and individuals to do better for themselves.

I hope that you find the courage and wisdom within you to lead your organization into a new era, a time in which the fast food industry becomes part of solving one of the problems we face on the environment.

POEM by Matt: My First Time

To go in for a sensation
But receiving an unexpected kiss
Tenderness, to the utmost extremity
And the smell of all this... perfection
And I open my eyes, slowly and even slower
Like a feeling of the sexual kind
The colors are the same as petals surrounding a soft peach
In and out I go for this sensation
Breathing harder every time
Time slows for this moment for everything else seems unimportant
For tis my first time, smelling a flower

GREAT CONCERT - Carina Round and Puscifer

Maynard, lead singer of the band Tool and accompanying artists from A Perfect Circle form the band known as Puscifer. THEY ROCKED THE HOUSE at the Gusman theater in Miami, FL on Tuesday, June 12th. It was an amazing and intimate show, very interesting set up. The lovely and talented Carina Round opened the show with her amazing voice, so beautiful and powerful, chilling really. She actually gave me goose bumps hitting her high notes. Truly unique and quite the comedian! She stopped between sets to say a few words to the audience.

"Mmmm triple moca late" she said as she reached down to sip from her plastic, non earth friendly cup. Then a long pause..... "With whiskey in it!"

She gave us a few loud belches in the mic after sipping in between sets. Crude yet still adorable!

She also asked the audience to sing along with one of her songs and gave us instruction demonstrating humming the tune. Can't remember the exact song at the moment but I do remember she said....

"Tampa sucked a bag of dicks, a bag of tiny dicks" as they were not too receptive and a weak audience.

Carina kicked ass in her Red 50's style dress and pink heels! Loved it! She also joined in singing along with Maynard when it came time for the grand show, PUSCIFER! Maynard was incredible and nearly drowned Carina out with his powerful vocals in some of the songs, truly amazing live performance! Before the Puscifer show began we watched a comic short featuring Maynard in disguise as a hillbilly along with other hillbilly casts... perhaps the band members, not recognized. The theme was Arizona border patrol and American stupidity. One the screen saver, after the comic short, the display phrase was Arizona border patrol, "We put the panic in Hispanic!"

Maynard wore a hillbilly getup for his performance, long coat, cowboy hat and shades. He also set up the entire stage by dragging out a portable camper trailer and with the help of Carina, set up some fold out camping tables, chairs and bbq grill with fake blowing flames. The also had a life size cut out of a hillybilly red neck and a Pocahontas Indian looking woman. Maynard talked about human nature from the beginning of time and had some interesting deep comments which is hard for me to remember as quoted. There was NO recording, camera's or cell phones allowed, strictly enforced as usual with Maynard! Maynard opened a couple bottles of his wine (he has his own wine company), surely it was his own brand, and poured some for himself and his band mates.

They began to play and ROCKED IT! Colorful flashing lights and a trippy digital backdrop illuminated the stage. Carina danced tribal like squatting down low with arms waiving in the air and kicking up her leg a few times like a METAL cheerleader when singing into the mic. Maynard did his trippy dance thing as well and the other band members rocked out. Bad ass drummer I must say.... had me slapping on my legs along with the beat. The entire band kicked ass! I'd definitely see them again and highly recommend to all!

PS. Sorry for any typo's, etc. and lack of info... It's after midnight now and I'm sleepy! GOOD NIGHT WISCONSIN!

Protect hibernating bats

Center for Biological Diversity

Dear Friends,
Indiana and little brown
bats with white-nose syndromeTo protect hibernating bats from white-nose syndrome, the fast-moving fungal disease that has killed nearly 7 million bats in the eastern United States, the U.S. Forest Service has kept caves closed in the Rocky Mountain Region for two years to all but the most essential human access. Now, with the policy up for renewal, the Forest Service is considering weakening protections for bats, increasing the risk of cave visitors bringing the disease into the caves.

Nationwide the loss of bats could mean exploding populations of insects no longer kept in check by these furry, fly-by-night mammals. Scientists have estimated that by keeping insect pests at bay and reducing the need for pesticides, bats are worth $22 billion annually to American farmers. In Colorado, these savings could reach $430 million per year; in South Dakota, $1.1 billion.

While bats are dying at rates topping 90 percent in some areas, and some species could face extinction, the risk to western bats and farmers is too great to justify easing restrictions for discretionary cave uses like recreation.

Please take action today to send a message to the Forest Service and express your support for maintaining the current, responsible management policy.

POEM by Matt: The Break Up

Uggghhhhhhh
Oh I dread this moment
Be strong, shoot to kill, get arrested
Go to jail for an unannounced sentence
Hurt's like fire, frost bite, Hiroshima bomb in your heart don't it?
But I'm the protagonist of this story!!!
Got the goods, the looks and the heavens on my side
And an order of one BAD ASS STORYLINE
I can live till the end or die in your arms
But I've got a show to play in Japan
The world needs me
But I need you

Shell Oil has done it again!!

Arctic Ocean
 Dear Friends,
Shell Oil has done it again. The oil giant just filed another lawsuit against the Center for Biological Diversity and 13 other environmental groups who are trying to protect the Arctic from dangerous drilling.

I wanted you to hear it from us first -- and know what we're doing about it.

The Center's blocked every offshore drilling proposal in the Arctic since 2007. Shell knows we're effective, so it's trying to take us out with another preemptive attack.

But we're not going to be scared off by outrageous lawsuits. We're fighting on every front to stop Shell's plans to drill in the Arctic this summer.

In fact we just filed a legal challenge against air permits that would allow the company to do just that.

The pristine Arctic -- home to polar bears, walruses and seals -- is too fragile to turn into an oil-drilling industrial zone with pollution, oil spills and lasting devastation.

But Shell is determined to drill. Its latest lawsuit targets our work to enforce laws protecting marine mammals like whales and seals from the devastating impacts of sound from drilling.

In its first suit, the oil giant is also trying to get us to pay its legal fees, which will likely run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

We won't be bullied by Shell. The Arctic is just too important to hand over to oil companies.

Thank you for standing with us to fight these obnoxious intimidation lawsuits. The Center will stay in this fight for as long as it takes to keep the Arctic, and all its wild inhabitants, alive.

We'll keep you updated as we move ahead to protect the Arctic and fight off Shell's suits against the Center and our allies.

Thanks for standing with us.

P.S. The Center's been fighting to protect the Arctic and its incredible wildlife for more than a decade. You can read on our website about what we're doing now to stop the Far North from being destroyed.

Help Protect US Endangered Freshwater Turtles!!!

Center for Biological Diversity

Dear Friends,
Barbour's map turtleFreshwater turtles are facing more and more devastating overharvest in the United States for sale to the pet industry and food and medicinal markets in Asia. Beautiful map turtles are already endangered, and unregulated international trade is rapidly destroying them and other native turtles.

Protection under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species would put limits on international trade and monitor their populations.

In response to a petition filed by the Center for Biological Diversity, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced that it may propose 17 species of U.S. freshwater turtles for CITES protection at the next meeting in Thailand. The agency has invited the public to comment on which species should be listed.

Please take action now to tell the Service to protect U.S. freshwater turtles from falling victim to an insatiable international market.

POEM by Matt: Treat me with mourning

Talk to me as if I died yesterday
Trust me as if you remembered only the fondest of memories
Hold me like you'd never see me again
No I'm not talking to my significant other
I'm talking to all my friends
For friends pass on everyday, one by one
And only at those moments do I love them the most
So text me as if that was the last message you could send me
Ask me out as if it were the last time
Cherish me as if I have had the biggest heart, as the good die young
For tomorrow may be my last day...

How Can I Help Save Endangered Polar Bears?

Center for Biological Diversity

Dear Friends,
polar bearsPolar bears are in big trouble from accelerating Arctic warming and a vanishing sea-ice habitat. This year's skyrocketing fur prices and trophy hunting are also taking a devastating toll. Polar bear sport-hunting and the trophy trade are prohibited in the United States, but the international trade in polar bear parts is alive and well.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is now deciding whether it will move to protect polar bears under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species. At the last round of CITES negotiations, the Service led the charge to ban all commercial trade in polar bear parts -- a move Canada blocked. The agency is now "undecided" on its position for the upcoming CITES meeting.

Canada still kills around 500 bears annually and leads the world in exporting rugs and hunting trophies. As polar bear numbers plummet under pressure from climate change, the Canadian territory of Nunavut quadrupled its hunting quota this season.
Tell the Service to take a stand against this excessive killing, stop the international trade in polar bear parts and lead the world in the bears' protection.

URGENT! Protect Our Environment! Stop New bill, H.R. 872!

Center for Biological Diversity

Dear Carrie ,
Chiricahua leopard frog
A new bill, H.R. 872, would allow unregulated pesticide applications and has already passed in the right-wing-dominated House of Representatives. Today their counterparts in the Senate are making a last-minute attempt to attach this poisonous legislation to the farm bill, hoping it will slip through unnoticed.

You can help turn back this toxic tide.

Many pesticides are linked to higher cancer rates and other serious health risks in people. Fish and amphibian populations have been devastated by these toxins, which can be the last straw for endangered species already in crisis.

Please take five minutes to call your senators and tell them to protect our waterways and wildlife from unregulated pesticide pollution.

Your personal phone call today will make a big impact. We've provided some talking points for your call. Click here to find the number to your senators, and, after you've called, let us know you were able to get through by clicking here.

Please, take a few minutes today to speak out for clean water and a healthy environment.

Sample Call:

Hello, my name is _________, and I'm from [City].

I'm calling to ask Senator ______________ to defend the Clean Water Act and its protections for our waterways from any bill that would limit or bypass it, like H.R. 872. I support the EPA's safeguards against pesticides through the "pesticide general permit" process. This protects our environment and public health fairly and effectively.

I strongly urge Senator _______________ to reject any measure that weakens the Clean Water Act. H.R. 872, and any companion bill in the Senate, is a hazard to all life in the United States. This controversial legislation should not be added to the unrelated farm bill.

[Please feel free to let the senator know how you are personally affected by pesticides in our waters.]

Please take action immediately; restricted to U.S. residents only.

POEM by Matt: Oasis

Oasis

o·a·sis/ōˈāsis/ Noun:

1. A fertile spot in a desert where water is found.
2. A pleasant or peaceful area or period in the midst of a difficult, troubled, or hectic place or situation.

Guys, I just won the lottery but kept it a secret
I didn't want anyone congratulating me
Secretly hoping to get a donation LOL
But for some, now reason I want to tell the whole world!
And Facebook is the perfect place to do it
I won more than enough to splurge for the rest of my life
And just thinking about what I could do....
OH GOODNESS! BUTTERFLIES!!!! :D
I'm thinking about a house on the beach
Pleasant Asian neighbors (I love Chinese food)
2-3 Kids, 2-3 of them are going to have dreads too hahaha!
And most importantly a hammock on the porch facing the water
Selfishly, I'm not going to give it away
Neither will I spend it
I'm going to hold it dear to me for as long as I can
For you are my Oasis
I was born with two hearts, one on each side
And the second one just started beating when I won you
I will keep you safe, no one else will take you away
If I have the opportunity
And maybe over time, my love will grow for you with interest $$$

Now it is time for the construction of these schools, which will together benefit more than 1,200 children, to begin. We are so excited to share with you the updates we get along the way until they are finished in September of this year. For now please check out the video below, highlighting the Land of Dreams Haiti event and the generous support that was given to bring us to where we are today.

POEM by Matt: Gummy bear guillotine

Would it hurt?
Would it taste good?
It reminds me of a Clockwork Orange;
Completely useless
The blade of the guillotine would be green, orange, red, and yellow from that yummy candy; dull too
The wood parts would all be the same and your hands and neck would still be locked in
Maybe it could be used as a punishment tool as well
The weight of the gummy blade plus the velocity of the drop could be scary...
Might even cause bruises lol
And maybe the thought of a guillotine would be used as leverage against petty crime
To have it placed in the middle of a shopping mall
You'd be too embarrassed to be seen by those judging eyes of strangers; even the rich ones
Hahaha, I just found a use for this thing!
Time to finish this up...
Life is as absurd as something useless if it has no meaning
But is as majestic as the universe with its limitless potential
How blind great personalities are to the restrictions of doubt
Cheers to possibilities of faith
Oh, I'll eat that sweet blade if no one else will

CHARITY: Happy Hearts Fund - Bring Happiness Back! Campaign 2012

Hi Everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating the holidays during the past couple of weeks! You were all such a big help to HHF's efforts in 2011... thanks to you, we were able to raise more than 2.3 million dollars that will all be used to build new schools around the world. If you haven't done so already, please be sure to register to receive the HHF newsletter at www.happyheartsfund.org/newsetter_subscribe.php It's a great way to receive updates about the progress of the schools being built around the world.

Also, I would like to invite you to be a part of HHF's Bring Happiness Back! Campaign 2012 Team! The purpose of this team mirrors that of the HHF mission... to raise funds and awareness that benefit schools that we build in areas that have been impacted by natural disasters. Through introducing each of our communities to HHF's mission via smaller fundraising events, we can restore a sense of hope to children who have been forgotten since their schools were destroyed as a result of natural disasters. Schools and groups that participate in the program also have the option of accessing the disaster preparedness training and response lessons that have been assembled in HHF's new initiative - SchoolsConnect.

If you are interested in joining the team, I would like to ask each of you to consider "hosting" a Bring Happiness Back! event in 2012. Together, the HHF staff team and volunteers will work with you to determine the fundraising initiative that fits your vision and iron out the details to make it a reality. The sky is the limit - so dream big! As "host" of the event, we ask that you help to determine the date and location for the event and promote it in your circle of friends. In addition, events will also be promoted among the HHF volunteer team, social media connections, and in the HHF monthly newsletter. As host, you also have the option of choosing which of the HHF schools that you would like to see benefit from the event. HHF is actively involved in building schools in Japan, Haiti, Peru, Mexico, Chile, Thailand, and Indonesia. Schools and groups that participate in HHF's SchoolsConnect program also have the option to directing connect the students that they lead with the students that receive the contribution.

I look forward to hearing from each of you and am available to get together to discuss the Bring Happiness Back! campaign as your schedule allows. Please feel free to contact me at this email address to register as a team member today.

Have a great day!

Thank you for supporting the Little Lighthouse Foundation and  its Iconic Holiday Party and Toy Drive.   Guests who attended the celebration on December 21, 2011 enjoyed a night of flowing champagne, a bevy of specialty drinks from Botram rum and feasted on Stone Crabs from George Stone Crabs.  The party raised over $5,000.00 and well over 300 gifts for the children living at the Community Partnership for Homeless were donated.       Volunteers from the Little Lighthouse Foundation then delivered the gifts to the children at the on Friday, December 23rd.

The Little Lighthouse Foundation appreciates your support as do all the children who benefitted from your generosity.   We hope you will continue to support the Little Lighthouse Foundation.   Founded in 2010, the Little Lighthouse Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non--profit organization that rallies volunteers and conducts high-profile events to benefit children and their families throughout South Florida. Focusing on supporting families who face medical, educational, emotional and financial challenges, the Little Lighthouse Foundation's network of active young professionals contribute both time and financial contributions. These contributions benefit internal Little Lighthouse programs and a network of other noteworthy local charities.  The charity hosts a number of social events throughout the year and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in 2011 to help South Florida children and families in need.

As if their smiles and thanks were not more than enough, the  children at Miami's Chapman Center were kind enough to give us this thank you card.
